When You Numb Your Feelings, You Numb Your Pleasure

One of the most common things I see in women I support is this: when you shut down your emotions, you also shut down your sexual pleasure.
Your nervous system doesn’t keep a neat filing cabinet, one drawer for “feelings” and one drawer for “pleasure.” It’s all connected. If you push down grief, you push down joy. If you lock away anger, you also lock away desire.
Over time, that protective armour might have helped you get through difficult seasons, but it also mutes the parts of you that want to feel alive. That’s why you might notice that even when you want to feel pleasure, it’s like your body is behind glass, you can see it, but you can’t quite touch it.
It’s not because you’re broken. It’s because your body is wise. It knows that opening to pleasure also means opening to everything you’ve been holding back. It’s protecting you until it feels safe.
This is why it’s so important to feel your emotions in the moment, to breathe deeply and let them move through you, instead of stuffing them down. When you pause, breathe, and let your body express what it’s feeling, whether that’s shaking, crying, sighing, or laughing, you keep the pathways between emotion and pleasure open and alive.
For me, this is where the work of Fembodiment™ Method becomes both life changing and enhancing. These practices and processes help you come back into your body, to feel what’s there without rushing, without bypassing. I invite you to use breath, movement, sound, pelvic awareness, and self-touch, not to “fix” you, but to help you feel.
Because here’s the truth: when you reclaim your emotions, your pleasure comes rushing back. The same pathways that carry tears also carry orgasm. The same breath that lets you sigh in grief is the breath that lets you moan in ecstasy.
Your body is waiting for you to listen.
If this spoke to you…
